A young man who was sentenced to 7 years in prison for robbing a post office ends up spending 30 years in solitary confinement. During this time, his own personality is supplanted by his alter ego, Charles Bronson.

Released in 2008, director Nicolas Winding Refn saw his interpretation of Charlie Bronson bought to life in a rollercoaster of a movie, featuring bizarre stage performances and violent prison clashes, encapsulating the mind of Britain's solitary man. Featuring a career-defining performance by Tom Hardy, the low budget movie catapulted the young actor onto the world stage. Featuring support performances by Matt King and James Lance, the film showed Charlie's journey from his first imprisonment in 1974, through to his harrowing time spent in Rampton, eventually leading to his solitary confinement in the cages of the British penal system.
